چکیده

The nitric oxide (NO) removal capacity of ion-exchanged zeolite Y obtained from coal combustion fly ash was evaluated in this work. Zeolite Y was exchanged either with Cu or Fe to obtain two different catalysts for the selective catalytic reduction of NOx from flue gas. The selective catalytic reduction experiments were carried out at temperatures ranging from 50°C to 350°C, water content 0% and 5% and 5% O2. In the absence of water, a total conversion of NO is obtained at 200°C for both zeolites, but important differences were found between zeolites LY-Cu and LY-Fe in the reduction of NO at temperatures lower than 200°C, and especially in the presence of water, that could be attributed to the different temperatures at which active species Cu and Fe are available for both ion-exchanged zeolites at the studied conditions. The greater surface area of zeolite LY-Cu can also contribute to its higher activity.

Immobilization of heavy metals in polluted soils by the addition of zeolitic material synthesized from coal fly ash.

The use of zeolitic material synthesized from coal fly ash for the immobilization of pollutants in contaminated soils was investigated in experimental plots in the Guadiamar Valley (SW Spain). This area was affected by a pyrite slurry spill in April 1998. Although reclamation activities were completed in a few months, residual pyrite slurry mixed with soil accounted for relatively high leachabl...

Adsorption of Cu(II) from Aqueous Solution on Fly Ash Based Linde F (K) Zeolite

The work focuses on the removing of Cu(II) from aqueous solution by Linde F(K) zeolite. The zeolite is synthesized from fly ash by hydrothermal process. The adsorption experiments discuss several factors including the optimal solution pH, zeolite dosage, adsorption temperature, adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherm equation. The results show that, the optima...

Synthesis of Zeolites Na-P1 from South African Coal Fly Ash: Effect of Impeller Design and Agitation

South African fly ash has been shown to be a useful feedstock for the synthesis of some zeolites. The present study focuses on the effect of impeller design and agitation rates on the synthesis of zeolite Na-P1 which are critical to the commercialization of this product. The effects of three impeller designs (4-flat blade, Anchor and Archimedes screw impellers) and three agitation speeds (150, ...

Competitive Adsorption of Cu, Ni, Pb, and Cd from Aqueous Solution Onto Fly Ash-Based Linde F(K) Zeolite

The reaction of fly ash with a KOH solution was used to synthesize Linde F(K) zeolite, following which Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy were used to characterize the crystalline material. The competitive adsorption of Cu, Ni, Pb, and Cd onto this zeolite was subsequently studied in quaternary solution systems. The results show that the metal removal rates gradually increase with incr...

Waste Minimization Protocols for the Process of Synthesizing Zeolites from South African Coal Fly Ash

Production of a high value zeolite from fly ash has been shown to be an avenue for the utilization of South African fly ash which presently constitutes a huge disposal problem. The synthesis of zeolites Na-P1 and analcime on a micro-scale has been successful and preliminary investigation shows that scale-up synthesis is promising. However, the post-synthesis supernatant waste generated contains...
